Elois’s Story

November 2019

Where did you grow up and what did you like about your home town?

Elois grew up in Tallahassee. When she was 15, her mother married and moved the family to Ft. Lauderdale. Elois had her first child at the age of 15 in Ft. Lauderdale and then relocated back to Tallahassee. Elois gave birth to Ernest in Tallahassee. Ernest has lived his entire life in Tallahassee.

Do you have any brothers or sisters?

Elois has three children, and Ernest is the middle. All three children live in Tallahassee and enjoy spending time together. However, sometimes Ernest’s sisters feel like he is still the “pesky little brother.”

Do you have any goals you would like to achieve in the short term, long term, or both?

Elois main goal is to obtain her own housing and enjoy cooking and resting in the peace and quiet. She is really looking forward to being able to cook meals for her son, especially during the holidays.

What would constitute a perfect day for you?

A perfect day is simply being in my own home with my son. Enjoying the rest and peace is all that matters. Elois just wants to be able to cook fried chicken and potato salad. For Ernest a perfect day consists of being able to enjoy some solitude. Ernest also can’t wait to enjoy eating as much food as he wants. Fortunately, Ernest enjoys walking, so he is able to walk off the extra calories.

What is your most treasured memory?

Ernest has treasured memories of visiting old neighborhoods he formerly lived in. Just walking down the streets and visiting old friends is what he treasures. Elois and her father worked together for the Leon County School Board. Her most treasured memory is when the school board took their picture together. She states they looked like twins. She would really love being able to locate a copy of that photo. Another treasured memory of Elois is playing the same numbers in the Florida Lottery. One day the numbers finally worked, and the family won $2500. Elois walked out to the car and told her children that they were finally rich.
